This is such an amazing opportunity to taste the classic after-dinner wine of the British elite for pairing with cheese and/or chocolate or simply & beautifully on its own. We will pour 3 types of Port : ruby, tawny and vintage, from two of Portugal's best houses : Fonseca and Taylor Fladgate. Fonseca is a 6th generation family owned & operated firm.

Cheers! the Murray family

Fonseca Bin No. 27 Finest Reserve Porto

we 88

A world renowned Port wine, BIN 27 has been produced since 1972, from estate grapes from Fonseca’s own quintas in the Cima Corgo—exceptional fruit that results in a wine of high quality and consistency from year to year, as well as grapes from independent local growers. A ruby-style Porto blended from reserve wines selected for their intense depth of color and fruit character, BIN 27 is aged for four years in neutral wood vats before bottling.

Fonseca Vintage Port 2017 375ml

wa 96-98 was 94

RATED 96-98 WINE ADVOCATE : This is the exciting new vintage of Fonseca Vintage Port - 2017 - in convenient half bottles.  'Sappy and sensational in flavor and fruit, this has velvety texture and a long finish. There is plenty of power here, great fruit and fine structure.' And 'then there’s the dark-chocolate freshness that pegs it as a Vale Mendiz classic, grown in the hills above Pinhão. My last note after three days of blind tasting:  I'd like to own that. ' W&S

Taylor Fladgate Tawny Port 10 year old

wa 93 we 91 ws 90

RATED 93 WINE ADVOCATE : 'It is my opinion that Taylor's tawny ports are the best of their type. When tasted against other tawnys, they all exhibit more aromatic personalities, greater fruit and ripeness, and a wonderful sweetness and length. The Ten Year Old Tawny is a personal favorite, as well as the best bargain among these ports.'

This sweet, fortified wine is aged in 600-liter oak casks for years, over which time they will lose their young, dark purple-black color to gain the distinctive 'tawny' hue from which the wine takes its name. As tawnies age, the wines take on increasingly more nutty flavors and become more concentrated as the barrels lose 3% of their volume every year (the “Angels’ Share”) to evaporation. The 10 Year Old Tawny is a blend created using tawnies with an average of 10 years of aging.
