The village of Vosne-Romanée is located just north of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and produces some of the best-known wines of Burgundy.  The clay and limestone soils are particularly well-suited to the production of great Pinot Noir and Romanée Conti and Richebourg are the most famous vineyard sites.  At Joseph Drouhin, Vosne-Romanée is a speciality in the portfolio, exuding the very best expression of its terroir.  The grapes are picked by hand. Fermentation is traditionally in open wooden fermenters.  The young wine then stays in barrels for an average of 18 months before being bottled.  Pinot Noir is well-suited to pair with poultry, beef, fish, ham, lamb and pork. It will play well with creamy sauces, spicy seasonings and may just be one of the world's most versatile food wines.

The Drouhin family has been making fine Burgundy since 1880.  Renowned winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin speaks about this Vosne-Romanée : 'Supreme elegance! Beautiful color, with intense and bright reflections. The diversity of the aromas is striking: wild cherry, nutmeg, camphor wood, fine leather. Later on, the wine takes on a subtle aroma of truffle, producing the most varied palette. With its perfect balance between tannin and acidity, the wine has a fleshy, sturdy body. Powerful and long aftertaste. A wealth of harmonious sensations characterizes this great Burgundy.'- Véronique Boss-Drouhin

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Village has a tiny reduction, but there is some lovely fruit tucked underneath. Very focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that frame the blue-tinged fruit. Lovely floral notes, wilted violets towards the finish that belies the grip that becomes more apparent with time.

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village bursts with aromas of ripe berries, spices, grilled squab, dark chocolate and toasty new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and muscular, with chewy tannins cloaked in a ripe core of fruit. This is quite a structured communal bottling from Drouhin, and it will merit a bit of bottle age. 88-90+
