Since first working in her family's Mendocino vineyards, Kathryn Hall dreamed of a place to showcase fine wines alongside expressive art and masterful architecture. In 2005 Kathryn and Craig Hall built a state-of-the-art winery in the hills of Rutherford where they achieved her dream. Hall's estate vineyards encompass over 500 acres of classic Bordeaux varietals; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. As winegrowers, the Halls have a strong respect for the environment and a commitment to cutting-edge vineyard technology to yield the highest quality grapes. Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of special lots from each of their five estate vineyards along with fruit from premiere Napa Valley vineyard partners. Their goal is to deliver a dense, supple Cabernet Sauvignon that consistently over-delivers.

This packs in some serious plum compote and cassis flavors, liberally wrapped in dark licorice and finishing with a swath of sweet toast and tobacco on the broad finish. Nice mineral underpinning keeps it honest. Fairly accessible despite its heft. Drink now through 2034. 55,000 cases made.

As with the 2015, the base 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a tremendous value. Blueberries, black cherries, licorice and hints of charcoal all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, ripe, opulent red that lacks the sheer grandeur and finesse of the top cuvee, yet packs gorgeous fruit and offers a peek at the quality coming from this estate. The blend is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc aged in 50% new French oak.
