Faust Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Faust is made by wine magnate, Chilean-born Agustin Huneeus, who also owns Quintessa, a boutique Napa Cab estate and, Veramonte winery in Chile. Faust exudes the Napa style of Cabernet Sauvignon: bold and powerful, yet elegant and concentrated. Top Cabernet Sauvignon lots are selected from vineyards Agustin Huneeus owns in the Rutherford area of Napa, as well as the up-and-coming Tulocay viticultural area which is south of Atlas Peak. Both vineyards are carefully tended to produce low yields and great concentration. The grapes are double sorted and crushed at Quintessa, one of the Napa Valley’s most technologically sophisticated wineries, featuring gravity-flow design, oak fermentation and naturally cooled caves.
Faust Winery celebrates a legend which has inspired many great minds, among them the German poet Goethe, from whose masterpiece the Huneeus' drew their inspiration. In Goethe’s most famous work, the aging scholar Dr. Faust barters his soul in the afterlife in exchange for another chance at youth. He gets his chance, yet ultimately his soul is saved by love. A balance of ancient art and contemporary technology transforms the finest grapes grown in the Faust vineyard into a bold, California-style wine that will harmonize with fine food.
The 2016 Faust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of o estate vineyards in Coombsville and Rutherford combined with mountain sourcing from vineyards in Atlas Peak, Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain. Fans of the 2015 Faust will love the 2016, with notes of dark chocolate, blue and black fruit, and dried herbs balanced by silky tannins and lifting acidity. Rated 90+ points or higher for the last five consecutive vintages.

Wine SpectatorLush and inviting, with cassis, creamed plum and boysenberry puree flavors gliding through on a very polished structure, while anise, mocha and tobacco accents check in on the finish. A seductive style. Drink now through 2028.
Wine AdvocateThe 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is blended of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller portions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged for 19 months in 30% new French oak. The core of the fruit comes from the Coombsville estate blended with some mountain and valley floor fruit from elsewhere. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it offers a beautiful core of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries and lavender with nuances of cedar chest, pencil lead and camphor plus a waft of tilled soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a nice, firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and well-played freshness delivering a long, vibrant finish.
Wine EnthusiastThis is a tremendous value for the quality-a youthful tightly wound wine that's still thick and tannic, with a heavy thread of leather, gunpowder and oak. Savory and substantial, it has secondary seasonings of sage and cedar that contrast well against black currant and cherry.
