Ramey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

SKU 11489

Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this Ramey offering has an exceptional quality/value ratio. The fruit for this wine was labeled as Ramey Larkmead Vineyard in the past, but at a much higher pricepoint. The Larkmead vineyard is located in the northern part of Napa valley and has been a wine producing vineyard since the 1880's. David Ramey is one of the best known and most highly regarded winemakers in California. Before founding Ramey Wine Cellars in 1996, he made wine for a bevy of top wineries, including Chalk Hill, Matanzas Creek, Rudd Estate and Christian Moueix's Dominus Estate. Ramey is widely acknowledged to be among the wine pioneers whose efforts helped raise the bar for all American winemakers by going back to more Old World traditions of winemaking. He learned much about these practices during a stint working for the Moueix family at the renowned Chateau Pétrus where David was introduced to the time-honored methods of winemaking in France after graduating from UC Davis. David's groundbreaking work with indigenous yeasts, malolactic and barrel fermentation yielded a new California style that was richer, more lush and silky smooth than previously known, as well as more expressive of terroir.

Wine EnthusiastSites from throughout the valley contribute to the lovely layering of this accessible wine, softly structured and classically inspired in its dried herb and distinct purity of cassis. Delicate despite its ripeness and power, it leaves a smoky hint of sweet tobacco on the finish.

Wine AdvocateRamey's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is a denser style of wine with an opaque purple color, notes of licorice, graphite, a touch of barrique and plenty of blackcurrants in a medium to full-bodied style with relatively supple tannins. It should drink well for 10-15 years.

Vinous"Another delicious wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific example of the year. Creamy and beautifully layered on the palate, the 2013 captures all of the pedigree of this great vintage in a style that offers a bit more immediacy than many other wines. Best of all, the Cabernet Sauvignon is a remarkable value. Bright red stone fruit, mint, white flowers and tobacco add nuance on the silky yet powerful finish. "
