Falesco was born in Montefiascone, Lazio in 1979. Second generation brothers Renzo & Riccardo Cotarella took the helm with the goal to rejuvenate native varieties of the Umbria region. In 1998, their wine named Vitiano was first produced and became one of the best choices for 'everyday' Italian red in the United States.
In 2017, Dominga, Marta and Enrica, daughters of Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, officially took over management of Cotarella Family Estates. Their aim was to tie the company’s identity to its native terroir and the family name – re-branding the estate’s historic ‘Falesco’ name to “Famiglia Cotarella”.
Vitiano Rosso 2020 is rich in polyphenolics, but also with a balanced freshness and acidity. This vintage is versatile, innovative and immediately drinkable. Very flexible for food combinations, to be enjoyed with the fragrance of its aromas and in the expression of its Umbrian character.

This wine offers a lot to enjoy. Aromas of black plum, sweet tobacco, espresso and floral notes entice. It strikes a balanced profile, showcasing ample fruit alongside savory notes of earthiness, leather and rosemary. A solid value.

The 2020 Vitiano Rosso Falesco is one-third each Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. The wine is full and generous with a core of fresh cherry fruit. There are dusty mineral tones with roasted coffee bean and spice. It remains generous and fruity throughout.

A blend of musky black currants, grilled sage and hints of lavender lift up from the 2020 Rosso Vitiano. This is a soft and round effort with a mineral tinge to its dark red fruits, yet I crave more energy. It finishes with a staining of primary concentration and lightly tannic.
