'We were born and raised in the hills that are home to Barolo, the wine we love and have dedicated our lives and passions to.' The history of the Mauro Veglia family is deeply linked to La Morra and to the rural roots of this part of the Langhe, which has succeeded in reinventing itself within the space of just a few decades, discovering an international vocation. Convinced that the work of winemakers must respond to a categorical imperative: the quest for quality, this family has chosen to leave the beaten track over the years and take paths that are often inaccessible, but where they see potential for growth. Striving every day to make wines that are in step with the times while resisting the temptation to follow trends, as befits the great classics, Mauro Veglio is an excellent source for high quality, delicious Barolo wines.
Castelletto is an extensive area between Monforte d'Alba and the hamlet of Perno, bordering with Serralunga d'Alba. Of all the appellations of Monforte, it is that which expresses the greatest finesse and elegance. Here about four hectares of vineyard in a south-easterly position are cultivate, which Daniela brought to the Veglio family when she married Mauro.
Intense ruby red with violet reflections. Intense and smooth aromas, with incredible harmony of red fruits and delicate rose petals. Very elegant, with subtle hints of underbrush, mint, and licorice. Vigorous, full-bodied, balanced. Great persistence in the tannins, but they are never too dry. Overall a juicy wine. Final notes of blackberry and blueberry jam.

Ripe dark-skinned berry, camphor, violet and French oak aromas shape the nose. Elegantly structured and savory, the polished palate offers juicy Marasca cherry, spiced plum, star anise and espresso alongside fine-grained tannins. Bright acidity keeps it fresh. Drink 2023-2028.

With fruit from a 3.5-hectare vineyard in Monforte d'Alba located at a cool 300 to 400 meters in elevation, the 2018 Barolo Castelletto offers superb elegance and harmony. The wine is made from a special selection of fruit from 30-year-old vines, and like the other Barolos in this portfolio, skin maceration times are standard, lasting from 15 to 20 days. This gives the wine power and personality, yet the Castelletto also maintains a delicate frame and finely tuned aromas that span wild berry and blue flowers.

The 2018 Barolo Castelletto is a powerful, deep wine that is not ready to show all its cards yet. Then again, this is Monforte Barolo we are talking about. Dried herbs, iron chalk, white pepper, crushed flowers and mint all grace this inward, brooding Barolo from Veglio. A whole range of savory, earth and mineral notes abound.
