in 2020, Château Lilian Ladouys was officially classified a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel (the top Cru Bourgeois classification) whose deep commitment to organic agriculture is driven by the Lorenzetti family’s passion and commitment to the quality of this estate. This classification status highlights all of the hard work and efforts undertaken by the family and their teams since 2008, from replanting and extending the vineyards to implementing environmentally friendly practices and modernizing its production facilities.
It is also a sign that Lilian Ladouys is officially renewing its ties with its glorious past, the origins of which date back to 1564. As far back as 1850, the first edition of the Cocks & Féret wine guide named the domaine as one of the most outstanding in the whole of Saint-Estèphe. When tasted, Lilian Ladouys always reveals a rich and crisp structure with ripe tannins and refined oak which melts into an explosion of fruit. It has the opulence and length of a Saint-Estèphe fine wine. Thanks to the appellation's limestone-clay subsoils, its power is balanced out by a wonderful sensation of freshness.

The 2019 Lilian Ladouys has gained a little more refinement since I tasted it in barrel, the black fruit now dominant and interlaced with tobacco and pencil box scents, less Margaux-like than previously. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, slightly powdery tannins. Classic in style, with that touch of brine on the finish. I admire the way it lingers in the mouth. Afford this 3-5 years in bottle.

This château continues to bring the goods, and their 2019 Château Lilian Ladouys offers a medium-bodied, supple, elegant, and certainly delicious style as well as complex notes of redcurrants, darker mulberries, cedary spice, and dried herbs. It shows the elegant, more mid-weight side to the vintage, yet the balance is spot on, it has ripe tannins, and it's going to keep for 15+ years.

Offering up aromas of sweet berries, cherries, licorice and spices, the 2019 Lilian Ladouys is medium to full-bodied, ample and charming, with a giving, easygoing profile and a clean, precise finish. It's a competent effort that shows none of the appellation's stereotypically hard edges.
