Nicolas Potel Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune is technically from a better appellation than a regular Bourgogne rouge. When the label says Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, the wine comes from vines located at the foot of the limestone cliff on sunny slopes perpendicular to the Côte de Beaune. The soil is made up of formations laid down 80 million years ago during the Trias (sandstone and clay) and Jurassic (marl and limestone) eras. Renowned for centuries, Hautes Côtes de Beaune was drunk at the coronation of Philippe Auguste in 1180. So to find a wine of this pedigree and delicious taste for such a reasonable price is beyond exciting.
Nice robe, average intensity. The nose releases aromas of cherry, licorice, and sometimes violet. In the mouth, a firm and straightforward taste, tannins pleasant once matured, and just the right amount of body. Great vintage, too.
