Elizabeth Spencer Special Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Elizabeth Spencer was built on the importance of strong relationships–starting with the dynamic personal relationship of husband and wife team of Spencer Graham and Elizabeth Pressler as well as their professional bond with an exciting network of growers, their talented team of employees, and, ultimately to their clients. Elizabeth Spencer's debut wine was 1998 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Working with prestigious vineyard growers, they have farmed and produced wines from every AVA in Napa Valley. Spencer’s undying curiosity for all things viticultural led him outward and beyond the Napa Valley and into the excellent neighboring regions. 

They also cultivated relationships with outstanding and experienced growers in Sonoma and Mendocino providing inspired fruit for a clutch of vividly fresh and endearingly delicious wines. Spencer and Elizabeth cemented their presence in the heart of the Napa Valley in 2006 with the opening of a tasting room in Rutherford, CA which is a historic brick Post Office from 1872.

This gorgeous 2019 Special Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon shows a ripe cherry hue in the glass, with aromas of cocoa and hints of cassis. A well-integrated palate offers ripe plum on the entry and finishes with dark fruits like blackberries and crushed raspberries. It's nicely balanced, with rich tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. This wine is approachable now and will age wonderfully.

In 'ultra new' news, Heidi Peterson Barrett, renowned Napa Winemaker, has joined Elizabeth Spencer as Consulting Winemaker, beginning with the 2022 vintage. She will be working closely with Winemaker Sarah Vandendriessche, who has made the wine at Elizabeth Spencer since 2010. Barrett has made many of the Napa Valley’s most sought-after and cult classic wines. Known as the “First Lady of Wine”, she was responsible for the creation of Screaming Eagle (from 1992 to 2006), Dalla Valle Maya, and the Dalla Valle Cabernets in the late 80s and early 90s. She is best known for her perfectly balanced, elegant, and age-worthy Cabernet wines. Wine after wine, year after year, Heidi has established herself as a true artist of winemaking who excels in shaping her wines into something extraordinary.
