Made by a well-known winemaker in the Republic of Georgia, Mukado is a dry red blend of ancient Georgian grapes. This area of the world has been producing wine for over 8,000 years. The Shavkapito provides an inner perfume to the wine which tames the brawniness of the Saperavi. The most widely planted grape of the country, the Saperavi grape is native to Georgia, and found throughout Russia and surprisingly in the Finger Lakes of New York as well. Medium-large dark blue berries produce deep reds known for aging. This hardy grape is known to handle extreme cold weather and fares well in high altitudes.
In the hands of winemaker Lado Uzunashvili, these ancient grapes become more supple and charming, and he has produced an international style for many wine lovers to enjoy. A third generation winemaker and wine grower, Lado spends 8 months in his native Georgia making wine, and 4 months in Australia doing the same. He is considered far and away Georgia's best winemaker. Located in Mukuzani in Kakheti in Eastern Georgia, his grapes are grown with organic methods. These soils on the right bank of the local river have clay soils and high temperatures in the daytime of the summers.
