Priest Ranch believes that all wines must stem from the land itself. Winemaker and viticulturist, Craig Becker, draws on their rich, diverse Estate vineyard to bring the Priest Ranch wines to life. Featuring a variety of elevations, exposures, soils and microclimates, Priest Ranch Estate provides fruit great quality and character. The original Priest Ranch estate was established in 1869 by James Joshua Priest, a Gold Rush prospector. In 2004, the partners purchased this historic, 660 acre property and combined it with a 955 acre estate in Elder Valley – together creating their current Somerston Estate. Today, the 1,615-acre estate is farmed with 230 acres of producing vineyards, in 15 distinct sites, encompassing over 180 different varietal blocks. Located high on the eastern hill of the Vaca Mountains above St. Helena, the estates’ varied range in elevations, exposures, soils, and microclimates create wines which showcase distinct expressions of its diverse terroir.
Priest Ranch wines began in 2007 with the first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Winemaker and Co-founder, Craig Becker, hasn’t looked back since. Honoring Napa Valley heritage by cultivating wines with distinctive profiles, Priest Ranch is committed to a forward-thinking mindset and a commitment to quality at the highest level.
Priest Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in 40% new French oak and 60% once-used French oak barrels. The lees were stirred for the first year, followed by three racking in the second year of aging. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful, full-bodied Napa Valley wine. On the nose, this wine has hints of cherry cola, vanilla, and dark fruit. The finish is a rounded mouthfeel that is persistent in the long and lingering opulent finish.

Hints of bay leaf appear on the blueberry and cassis-rich nose of Priest Ranch's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. It's full-bodied and ripe, with a somewhat expansive and gently velvety mouthfeel, vanilla notes and a long, soft finish. It strikes me as a wine meant for early consumption.
