From one of our absolute favorite domaines in Burgundy, the wines at Comte Armand are made from organic/biodynamic vines, 100% de-stemmed with whole-grape fermentation, 20-30% new oak; the reds are unfined, unfiltered and the whites are fined and lightly filtered. This is from the village of Auxey-Duresses, an appellation Comte Armand is known for, in addition to its most illustrious Pommard wines. Winemaker Paul Zinetti is very talented and has respected the deeply rooted, complex vines at this estate. Auxey produces a rich wine with small berries, the wines can generally be drunk quite young, and yet can age easily for up to 10 years.

The village Auxey from Comte Armand had a surprisingly deep colour in 2021. Aromas ranged from cranberry to pomegranate with a floral edge, a hint of mineral and just a bit of pyrazine. The texture was light and fine, with somewhat astringent tannins and moderate length. Yields were low in ’21 due to frost but also due to very rigorous sorting. There were no whole clusters in the ferment in this vintage, and the ferments were short, some just five days. Priority was given to macerating before and after the fermentation; most cuvées were lightly chaptalized. (Drink 2024 through 2035)
