Robert Mondavi established his namesake winery in 1966 with a vision to create Napa Valley wines that would stand in the company of the world’s finest wines. He chose To Kalon Vineyard in the heart of the Napa Valley as the home for his winery. This first-growth vineyard, located in Oakville, California, is renowned for producing some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the world, as well as for its Sauvignon Blanc grapes, from which Mr. Mondavi crafted his signature white wine, Fume Blanc.
Fruit for Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet comes from sub-appellations throughout the Valley, each of which have been specially chosen for being a true reflection of place, a gorgeous expression of Napa Valley. Nearly half of this year’s blend is sourced from the deep, well-drained soils of Oakville, which created gorgeously dark, supple wines framed by fine tannin. Complementary portions of the blend come from Stags Leap District, Oak Knoll, Yountville and Rutherford.
The 2019 is made of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec. Framed by lovely bright acidity and fine tannins, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon has vibrant fruit notes shining through to the end. Cherry, purple plum, sage, sandalwood, mint, and vanilla bean on the nose. Sweet black fruit, warm oak Spice, and chocolate on the palate.

The base 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is certainly impressive, and since there are roughly 90,000 cases, it's an incredible achievement. Classic darker currants, tobacco leaf, truffly earth, and spicy oak all define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. Based off 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, buy a case and enjoy bottles over the coming 10-15 years.
