DeLoach Zinfandel Russian River Valley 2019

DeLoach Vineyards, located in the heart of Sonoma’s renowned Russian River Valley, is a pioneering producer of award-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel wines. DeLoach winery has over 45 years of experience experimenting with the perfect combination of soil, rootstock, and clones, resulting in a history of producing high-quality, eco-friendly wines. In 2003, the Boisset family brought their sustainable winemaking experience from Burgundy, France, to California’s Russian River Valley and replanted their estate vineyards with cover crops to revitalize the soil. 

In a search for new Zinfandels for the Bottle Shop, we tasted and loved this DeLoach Russian River Valley Zinfandel made from a blend of grapes from BCD, Slusser, Saitone and Boschetti vineyards, all of which are Certified Sonoma Sustainable. The wine is made in a style that highlights the distinctive characteristics and unique flavor profiles of these various Russian River Valley vineyards. The BCD Vineyard is one of the last to ripen and provides great acidity and brambly flavors, while the Slusser Vineyard offers darker fruit flavors and high-toned aromatics. The grapes from the Saitone Ranch lend an intense dark spice to the wine while the fruit from the Boschetti Ranch provides dense tannins and a fuller body. All in all, this bright, sleek Zinfandel opens with aromas of baked plum, baking spice, white pepper and earth on the nose. It is plump and zesty on the palate with licorice, black cherry and notes of black tea. Medium-bodied with round tannins, the finish is rich and intense.
