Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
In 1978, Chuck Hope moved his family to the Paso Robles region of California, to start a new life of farming and grape growing. Austin Hope grew up working alongside his father, inheriting his love and respect for the region. He led the family’s move into winemaking in 1995, and further exploration of Paso began. In 2000, Austin created the Austin Hope label, making very small productions of intensely flavored Rhône varietals from their estate. Today, Austin is showcasing an even greater sweep of the Paso region and expressing a similar richness with a recently released Cabernet Sauvignon. The source of the wine is far-reaching within the appellation - a most discerning group of vineyards located on gently sloping hillsides and hidden pockets across the domain, providing dimension to the Cabernet varietal. The wine has a bold structure of lush, velvety tannins and an unmistakable elegance. It is dark, ripe and eminently enjoyable.
In 2019, a previous vintage of this wine was chosen as the Wine Enthusiast's # 10 Wine of the Year. That helped open the eyes of many Napa Cabernet drinkers about what was going on in Paso Robles. Paso is definitely a great place to grow Cabernet, and the folks down there are always pushing to make the best wines possible, knowing full well about the competition up north! It is an exciting time for Paso Robles, so don't miss out.

Bottle ShopThe 2018 Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous follow-up to the 2017. Intense aromas of ripe black currants, black cherries and smoky oak notes lead to hints of dried spices. On the palate, this lavish powerful wine is layered with juicy blackberry, ripe cherry, vanilla bean and brown butter flavors. Full-bodied, rich and dense, this is balanced by a touch of bright acidity and firm polished tannins, which is the hallmark of the Austin Hope style.
