Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is one of Burgundy's most sought after estates, and perfectly exemplifies the identity of Volnay. D'Angerville's list of holdings touches all of the village’s great terroirs, including one of the most picturesque vineyards in Volnay, the monopole of the estate, Clos des Ducs. The domaine started bottling its own production in the 1920s after the current Marquis’ grandfather, Sem d’Angerville, challenged the blending methods of the negociants’ and then began bottling his own wines instead of selling them his grapes. D'Angerville was one of the first Burgundy domains to do this, making history and encouraging the future of the region at the same time. Today the estate is led by Guillaume d’Angerville, farmed immaculately, and is producing some of the best wines in the entire Cote d’Or.
Burghound
- bh93
Like the Bourgogne there is just enough reduction present to render the nose difficult to assess. On the plus side there is both more elegance and refinement to the utterly delicious and vibrant flavors that display a lovely minerality on the firm, vibrant and intense finish that is very well-balanced. Once again however note well that this is not without a certain amount of muscularity and thus at least 5 to 7 years of bottle age will be necessary. 90-93

Aromas of raspberries, warm spices, raw cocoa and a deft touch of new oak introduce the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru, a medium to full-bodied, velvety wine that's bright and penetrating. It's the usual blend of Les Pitures and Mitans, and it's the most immediate, approachable premier cru in the domaine's portfolio. 90-92
Vinous

The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with slightly earthy red berry fruit, white pepper and a touch of bay leaf, unfolding gently in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, firm grip, a slightly more masculine Volnay with a terse finish that should flesh out by the time it is in bottle. Give it 24 months. 89-91
