Champagne Louis Roederer, makers of Cristal Vintage Champagne, is one of the region's most prestigious houses. Roederer was founded in 1776 in the town of Reims in Champagne and is still an independent family business. This Brut Rosé is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, 20% of which is wine matured in oak tuns without malolactic fermentation; aged for four years in Roederer’s cellars and left for 6 months after dégorgement (disgorging) to attain perfect maturity. The wine has fruity aromas of wild red berries, followed by floral notes, and the sugary and spicy fragrance of zest; and the aromas of dried fruit and cocoa result from the wine’s vinifying in oak tuns. Rich and full-bodied, Brut Rosé exalts the maturity of the fruit. A sparkling wine with an initial impression of freshness, it opens smoothly with almost exotic notes, combined with the pure minerality of the Chardonnay grapes.

The Roederer style has become drier as the fruit has become riper and this finely balanced Champagne is an excellent example. Taut and textured, with great freshness allied to the mineral and fruit tones, this wine just hints at tannins as it moves towards maturity. Drink from 2022.

Wafting from the glass with notes of pear, raspberries and honeycomb, mingled with hints of white flowers and brioche, Roederer's 2014 Brut Vintage Rosé is medium to full-bodied, deep and complete, with fine concentration, brisk acids and an elegant pinpoint mousse. Long and penetrating, this is a fabulous cuvée that punches well above its weight, and it comes warmly recommended.

This has aromas of very fresh, sliced strawberry and spicy pastry with a nutty autolysis edge. Lots of complexity here. There’s a sleek smooth and layered feel on the palate with a fresh, fine texture that really appeals. Long and crisp. Bone-dry finish. Drink or hold.

The 2014 Rosé is soft, gracious and in inviting, all in a delicate style that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. Orange peel, spice, mint, star anise, rose petal and dried flowers give the 2014 a decidedly exotic feel. Airy and perfumed, with lovely understated persistence, the 2014 is a very pretty wine. I would prefer to drink it on the young side. Like all of the Roederer Rosés. The vintage Rosé is a blend of Chardonnay (in this case from Chouilly) and an infusion of still red Pinot (from Cumières) that was given 7-10 days of cold soak. Dosage is 8 grams per liter.

Rapierlike acidity creates a mouthwatering frame for flavors of steeped peach and raspberry fruit, lemon pastry cream and Marcona almond in this harmonious rosé Champagne, which is racy and finely knit, with lovely hints of licorice, saline and orchard blossom riding the satiny mousse on the long finish. Disgorged summer 2019. Drink now through 2034.
