For this amazing event we are releasing our third Widow Jane Private Barrel at the Bottle Shop; a 12 Year Single Barrel Bourbon - Barrel #141 - made with a high-rye content. Our VIP guest is Steve Fette, the 2016 NJ Iron Shaker Champion -the best mixologist in NJ - who now works with a portfolio of high quality spirits including Widow Jane.
From Kentucky to Scotland, the great whiskey distillers of the world know that it takes sweet water from tough rock to make great whiskey. Widow Jane is handcrafted in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn with water sourced from the Widow Jane Mine in Rosendale, NY, which is filled with a very special, super strong and durable limestone, the so-called tough rock. When Bourbon is crafted, there are various blends of corn, rye, barley and sometimes wheat. Our Widow Jane private single barrel is a High-Rye Bourbon made from 36% Rye, 60% Corn and 4% Barley. 99 proof.
Aged for 12 years in American oak, we love its aromas of spices, honey, citrus and chocolate, its smooth and balanced mouthfeel and its round, balanced finish. Gently spicy and not too 'hot', this is an impeccable example of classy Bourbon with a golden brown hue. Since it is unfiltered like all Widow Jane whiskies, you may see some 'char' at the bottom of the bottle. This means you are going to get tons of flavor with seductive toasted oak notes. BOTTLED NOVEMBER 2018 :: We are very excited to release our third High-Rye Single Barrel Bourbon crafted by Widow Jane. Aged for 12 years in American oak, it is the only barrel of its kind and has been bottled exclusively for the Bottle Shop of Spring Lake. This is our fifth private barrel program; we had great success with our private barrels from Knob Creek, Widow Jane and Four Roses. This, our third Widow Jane barrel, is made from Rye, Corn and Barley. We love its honey citrus aromas, rich and smooth mouthfeel and long, round finish. Look for a full body with nuances of gentle spices, tangerine skin, chocolate and honey drizzled toast. Very balanced, this does not taste too 'hot' on the palate, it'sSince it is unfiltered like all Widow Jane whiskies, you are going to see a deep, exotic color, and you are going to get tons of flavor with seductive toasted oak notes. |

When Rye comes off the still it is sweet, grassy, and floral. A traditional “spicy” characteristic all come from the barrel. With this rye whiskey, Widow Jane's goal was to lightly oak the rye distillate in their 7-year bourbon barrels with added fresh oak and applewood staves. This rye makes great cocktails. A good bitter, or a splash of vermouth or ginger beer goes a long way. |
