Dave Ramey is known as one of California's most gifted and quality-driven winemakers, and he has also been a long-time friend of the Bottle Shop. Being a NJ native prompted him to first visit us about 20 years ago, and we have been enthusiastic, loyal fans of his wines ever since. We will never forget a visit to Rudd Winery in the early 2000's where Ramey was the winemaker at the time and was also making his own label at the newly constructed, state of the art winery- what was uncanny is that his own label took up half the space in the cellars. We believe he parted ways with Rudd soon after our visit- not sure they appreciated the runaway success of his own label. Ramey makes rich, concentrated wines and specializes in Cabernet and Chardonnay. The first wine below is a small batch Cabernet from the great 2015 vintage. It isn't that easy at this point to find 2015's Cab on the market, so snatch this one up at $49.99 and enjoy over the next 7-9 years. Next up, Dave's Russian River Chardonnay reminds us of why Chalk Hill's Chards were so good in the 1980's-he made them! His own 'everyday' Chard here is one of the best, most delicious in the field. And perhaps the biggest gem of all today, is Ramey's 'Rochioli' Chardonnay. Rated 99 points and the #15 Wine of the Year in Wine Enthusiast, this manages to be big and bold yet fresh and racy all at the same time - an extraordinary feat!
