This delightful discovery hails from the Veneto region in northern Italy which was made famous by the great Amarone wine and classic Valpolicella. We thought that the Gran Passione tasted like a ‘baby’ Ripasso which is the red wine made by passing the Valpolicella juice over the lees of the Amarone, and in fact a portion of the grapes for Gran Passione were dried in the sun before fermentation (like the Amarone), an ancient process that gives the wine more body and richness. This blend of Corvina and Merlot has dark red fruits, dark chocolate, licorice, crème de cassis and Asian spices on the nose and mouth.
