Pacina Toscana Rosso 2013
Pacina is made by husband and wife team Stefano and Giovanna Tiezzi who cultivate Sangiovese organically in harmony with their terroir in Chianti Colli Senesi. The most striking and impressive thing about the couple is how completely tied they are to the 'place' and Sangiovese particular to Pacina. The convent on the estate dates back to 900 A.D and Giovanna is the third generation to be its guardian. Made of 97% Sangiovese with a 3% Canaiolo/Ciliegiolo, this is aged for 14 months in oak, bottled unfiltered, and further aged 12 months in bottle. Pure and delicious with red fruits, flowers, subtle spices and more, we enjoy this red at home with a full range of Italian and Mediterranean fare. We met Stefano Tiezzi during a visit to Italy which coincided with Vin Italy, and his wines were among the most impressive we tasted during the trip. This wine was formerly known as 'Chianti Colli Senesi' but has been changed to an IGT wine by the estate. The grapes are grown in the Castelnuovo Berardenga district of Colli Senesi.
