Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel 2016
In the words of winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson: Bedrock Wine Co. firmly believes in the philosophy that “diversity is the spice of life.” The wines Twain-Peterson makes are not limited to a single caste or single style. Rather, they reflect his own eclectic tastes and general feeling that a broad palate makes for more interesting gustatory experiences. Bedrock is a very small winery making wine in a converted chicken coop. Fruit from only the most excellent vineyard sites is hand pitch-forked into the destemmer, fermented in open top redwood and stainless vats using only native yeasts, and are manually basket pressed by the winemaker into oak made from the coldest French forests.
Made with native yeast fermentations with a combination of punch downs and pump overs and aged in all French oak, 12% new, this Zinfandel is a perfect example of the Bedrock style. Though it is legally a Zinfandel, and labeled as such, it is also a Bedrock wine so it has its full quotient of the wacky, weird and wonderful as well - nearly 23% Carignane, Mourvedre, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Abouriou, Aubun, and assorted mixed white varieties. 3600 cases made. The 2015 was a Top 100 Wine of the Year.
