Domaine de L'Arlot is the site of the former Domaine Jules Belin in Premeaux, located just south of Nuits St. Georges. The Domaine was co-owned by Jean-Pierre de Smet, who spent about eight years alongside Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac before taking over at Arlot in 1986. In 2007, management of the Domaine was handed over to Olivier Leriche, who had worked at the domaine for many years under Jean-Pierre de Smet, and who has been faithful to the pure and elegant style that Domaine de L'Arlot built its reputation on. Today, 14 hectares are planted with Pinot Noir for the red wines, with about 5% devoted to Chardonnay and Pinot Gris for the whites. The oldest vines are about 60+ years old, with the average age around 35. Since 2002 the Domaine has practiced 100% organic farming.
The Domaine has two premier cru Monopoles: Clos des Forets Saint Georges (7 hectares) which was planted in the early 1950's and Clos de L'Arlot (4 hectares). The Clos de L'Arlot also produces about 3,000 bottles of a rare white Nuits St. Georges. The Nuits St. George AC is made from the young Clos des Forets vines, producing about 3,000 bottles. The Cote de Nuits Villages Clos du Chapeau is only about 3 hectares. In 1991, the Domaine added a parcel of Romanee Saint Vivant to its holdings. The vines are located just in front of Romanee Conti. The wines of Domaine de L'Arlot are aged in about one third new wood from the Allier forest and are bottled after 16-18 months for the premier crus, 14-15 months for the village wines. The reds are bottled unfiltered.

Wine AdvocateThe 2010 Nuits St. Georges Clos des Forets St.-Georges is striking. Freshly cut flowers, spices and red berries are some of the many notes that are woven together. Though deceptively understated at first, the Forets St-Georges has plenty of underlying Nuits structure. A crystalline, totally pure finish laced with rose petals, spices and licorice wraps around the palate in stunning style. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

BurghoundThis is also strongly reduced yet like the Clos de l'Arlot, the floral nuances are also evident through the reduction. This is quite serious, even brooding with rich, dense and powerful medium weight plus flavors that possess more prominent tannins and outstanding length on the mouth coating, dusty, austere and impressively long finish. This will require plenty of cellar time to arrive at its apogee but should be well worth the wait. 91-93
