Anna's husband, Mario, was born into a family whose roots as winemakers span four generations. His father emigrated from Italy to California where he has worked for over 40 years making wine for Gallo. Mario earned degrees in both Viticulture and Enology and Italian at the University of California Davis. He honed his craft working a harvest in Tuscany at Villa Antinori, then spent four years working as the assistant winemaker for consultant Philippe Melka for numerous Napa Valley producers. The two believe life should be enjoyed on a daily basis, taking a seat around the table where good food and fine wine are elevated by great company and lively conversation. It all stacks up to a life fulfilled and that’s the philosophy that drives Stack House.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley comes mainly from declassified mountain fruit. It is made up of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, aged 20 months in 85% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it features bombastic notes of black cherries, crème de cassis and warm plums with touches of cedar chest, pencil lead, menthol and forest floor. Full-bodied, firm and grainy, it has bold freshness and tons of black fruit layers, finishing on a spicy note. 5,000 cases made.

A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec, 5% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, aged 32 months in 50% new oak, drink this round, supple, seamless 2018 over the coming 4-5 years.
