Borgo Scopeto Borgonero 2014

SKU 01577

Borgo Scopeto is a well-established estate in the Classico zone of Chianti which is owned by the quality-driven Elizabetta Gnudi. The first reference to Chianti Classico appeared in a document as early as 1398 yet Borgo Scopeto is a great example of the new breed of modern yet classic Chianti estates. Borgonero is Gnudi's 'Super Tuscan' blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Rich and spicy yet balanced and elegant, it is the perfect red to serve with pasta, risotto, veal, chicken and/or Italian cheeses. As an interesting side note, the beautiful ancient Scopeto estate was featured in the movie, 'Letters to Juliet,' starring Vanessa Redgrave, Amanda Seyfried, and Gael Garcia Bernal; the landscape was pure Tuscany with its cypress trees and rolling vineyards.

Wine EnthusiastA blend of 40% Sangiovese, 20% Syrah, 20% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, this opens with aromas of ripe black-skinned fruit and cooking spice. The firm savory palate doles out sour cherry, cinnamon and tobacco alongside smooth tannins. Drink through 2020.

Wine AdvocateHere's a wine that delivers robust aromas of dark fruit and spice. What it lacks perhaps is an authentic taste of Tuscany. The 2014 Borgonero could be from any warm climate wine zone. The fruit is plump and dark and there are pretty notes of spice, tobacco and dark chocolate to fill in the rear. The wine reveals vinous and raw fruit flavors with sticky and sweet end notes.
