Founded in 1854 by Generals William "Tecumseh" Sherman and General "Fightin’ Joel" Hooker, Bedrock Vineyard has grown grapes for over 150 years. Following the first epidemic of phylloxera in the mid-1880’s, the vineyard was replanted in 1888 by Senator George Hearst - a mining magnet, an early father of California, and the father of publisher William Randolph Hearst. It is from those 125 year old vines that the Bedrock Heritage Wine is crafted. The Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine comes from current owner Morgan Twain Peterson's family vineyard in the heart of Sonoma Valley. Composed of over 22 interplanted varieties, the Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine is the wine that Peterson started the winery to make. The piece of rock strewn red clay soils produced a wine of citrus-tinged red fruits and spice. The 2013 is made of 55% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, and the remainder being co-fermented of Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Mourvedre, Grand Noir, Trousseau Noir, Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, Tempranillo, Castets, etc. etc. These red hill clay loam soils of the vineyard were planted in the 1880's, and today, it is sustainably farmed.

Wine SpectatorA knockout red, focused and well-built but loaded with personality. Expressive blackberry and dark Asian spice notes lead to intense yet refined smoky plum, orange zest and smoky cracked pepper flavors. Zinfandel, Carignane, Mataro, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet. Drink now through 2027.

Wine AdvocateA blend of 50% Zinfandel, 18% Carignan and 4% Mataro with more than 20 other interplanted mixed black varieties, the medium to deep garnet colored 2016 Bedrock Heritage Wine has a fragrant nose of violets, potpourri, baking spices, chocolate box, prunes, raisin cake and blackberry preserves. The palate is full-bodied, rich and concentrated with very firm, chewy tannins and a lively line, finishing long and earthy.
