Made by the talented Christian Moeuix, La Providence is superbly situated next to La Fleur Petrus and Trotanoy. When Thomas visited Bordeaux in the Spring of 2006, he met with Christian Moueix who was notably excited and enthusiastic about this new wine. Thomas and his comrade John were the first Americans to see the new label design, of which Monsieur Moueix was quite proud, for its unique look in Bordeaux wine. After tasting the wine in barrel, and visiting the Providence vineyard, Thomas was anxious to receive the wine stateside.

Wine AdvocateThis limited-production, 100% Merlot cuvee is a beauty. Sweet, almost caramelized black cherry fruit and dark mountain berries intermixed with forest floor and a touch of subtle oak characterize this full-bodied, rich, concentrated, superb Pomerol that should hit its stride in 3-4 years and last for two decades. Unfortunately, the production is only about 1,500 cases.

Wine EnthusiastChristian Moueix's new property is already showing its potential. In the second vintage under his control, it is producing a huge, dense wine, with black cherry juice, blackberry and bitter cocoa flavors. The wine's structure is firm and solid, but with the potential over the next 4-5 years of revealing a more generous side.

Wine SpectatorEarth and spice on the nose and palate, with hints of mushroom and berries. Medium-bodied, with sweet berry character and a delicate finish. Slightly stewed. Best from 2011 through 2015.
