Surrau Branu Vermentino di Gallura 2017
Surrau is located at the entranceway to Sardinia’s Emerald Coast in the northeast corner of the island in the heart of the Gallura appellation. Its perfect position, tucked between the Limbara massif with its granite peaks, and the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean, provides a perfect growing area for both whites and reds of extraordinary elegance. Though the DeMuro family are native Sardinians who have practiced viticulture for generations, the modern day story of Surrau began in the early 2000s, when Tino DeMuro dedicated himself to the family vineyards. His vision of Surrau was as a messenger of his family’s passion for their land to the world. Today, the DeMuro family owns over 50 hectares in seven different locations in Gallura, over 70% of which is planted to Vermentino. The soils are mainly decomposed granite and sand rich in marine fossils. The near constant influence of the Mistral winds is a strong line of defense against disease; the estate practices sustainable agriculture, integrated pest management, and ferments with indigenous yeasts.
This wine called 'Branu' is an exceptional example of Sardinian Vermentino. 'Branu' means 'Summer' in the local dialect of Sardinia. Made of 100% Vermentino is grown in soils of decomposed granite mixed with sand. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks under temperature control with indigenous yeasts. Serve as an aperitif, with seafood, shellfish and vegetables/green salads.

Wine EnthusiastYellow peach, Mediterranean brush and a whiff sea breeze virtually leap out of the glass. Tangy and savory, the bright, medium-bodied palate doles out juicy apricot, pineapple and a hint of wild fennel. A tangy saline note marks the close.
