The Fattoria del Cerro estate was founded by the Baiocchi family in 1922. When the DOCG Tuscan appellations were created, the owners of del Cerro played a major role due to their traditional, high quality views, and they emerged as one of the foremost producers of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Today, the estate is comprised of 1,485 acres of land. In addition to olive groves, wooded areas and fields, there are 230 acres of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano vineyards, 90 acres of Rosso di Montepulciano vineyards, 50 acres of Chianti Colli Senesi vineyards and 52 acres of other varietal vineyards. The state-of-the-art winery produces 850,000 bottles of wine every year.

Their classic Chianti from the Colli Senesi zone is made with the help of winemaker Riccardo Cotarella who made a name for himself in Umbria at Falesco. We tasted this blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo Nero, and found a very pretty red with red fruits and flowers in the nose and mouth. Ideal for serving with a light pasta dish with fresh tomatoes, pizza, cheeses and salumi.

Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Chianti Colli Senesi is extra plump and ripe. This wine shows a bold charge of black cherry sweetness and opulence. The effect is simple and mostly based on all that cherry-like character. But you are also treated to soft tones of baking spice and powdered mocha at the back. This is a warm and exuberant wine that will appeal to those who love soft, juicy and ripe red wines from Tuscany.
