Stéphane Aviron’s Fleurie is made from an old vine hillside vineyard from holdings owned by his wife. Exposure on these steep slopes face south and southeast with soils of clay and limestone. The Gamay grapes are handpicked and sorted upon arrival at the winery. The must is macerated in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for 12-15 days and then aged for 12-14 months in a combination of new and one-or-two-year old barriques. The wine is made using 100% wild yeasts and exhibits the quintessential Fleurie style. Ripe, gorgeously feminine, silky and pure, look for a wonderful perfume of berries and flowers, followed by strawberry, raspberry, plum, mineral and dried flower flavors. Every year we taste the new vintage of Beaujolais wines with Stéphane Aviron to choose our new selections. This is a beauty!

Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Fleurie Vieilles Vignes Domaine de la Madriere felt a little "bretty" on the nose when I tasted it in Beaujolais. The palate is balanced with decent weight but I feel that there is some brettanomyces here that is suppressing the fruit. I will try to taste another bottle.

Wine EnthusiastFrom a family-owned cru vineyard. Stéphane Aviron has produced an impressive, ripe and dense wine. It has great swathes of black fruit and generous acidity. The tannins, still young, are a background to this delicious fruitiness. Drink from 2020.
