Michele Chiarlo Barbera d'Asti Superiore Le Orme 2013

SKU 11365

Founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo, this Piemontese estate has always maintained a commitment to high quality and the authentic expression of local grapes and terroirs. From the beginning, Michele Chiarlo has directly managed or personally overseen every aspect in the production of his wines. Since the early 1990s, his sons, Alberto and Stefano, have also held management roles. Alberto, the elder, directs marketing and sales; Stefano, an enologist by profession, manages vineyard operations and collaborates in production in the cellars.

Barbera d'Asti was the first wine to be produced by Michele Chiarlo, and remains a great passion for the family. Chiarlo seeks vineyards in the prestigious areas of Nizza Monferrato, Agliano, Calamandrana, Castelnuovo Calcea and Montaldo Scarampi, all within the Barbera d'Asti growing area. 2011 was a good vintage in Asti and Alba, producing elegant, lively versions of this lovely grape with bright red fruit flavors. Aged for eight months in large French oak barrels, this red is great to serve with pasta dishes with red sauces, roasted chicken or chicken with mushrooms, light red meat dishes, cheeses and cured meats or artisanal pizza.

Wine EnthusiastViolet, dark-skinned berry and sweet baking spice aromas take center stage on this vibrant, easy-drinking red. The supple, savory palate doles out black cherry, raspberry, orange peel, cinnamon and star anise framed in zesty acidity.
