Montes Alpha Pinot Noir 2016

We tasted this wine for the first time while visiting the Montes winery in Chile, during a tasting with owner/winemaker Aurelio Montes Jr. Aurelio has a true passion for Pinot Noir, and seeks the coolest micro-climates in order to produce small batch Pinot Noir in Chile. This is a beautiful, fleshy and elegant vintage, with good fruit density and the right balance of acidity. Look for raspberries, plums, flowers and vanilla in the nose with a generous yet delicate palate of red fruits and flowers. This tastes more expensive than it is, and will remind you of a cross between a California and an Oregon Pinot, but more in the $25-30 price range. Serve with salmon, lamb or fine cheeses.

James SucklingA tangy and fresh wine with dried strawberry and hints of smoke. Medium to full body, round tannins and a fresh finish. A pretty pinot with plenty of texture and flavor.
