Bodegas La Val was established in 1985 and was one of the first wineries in Rias Baixas. In an effort to maintain quality control and a consistent style, La Val only uses its own estate grown grapes rather than buying them from local growers. They own 150 acres of Albariño most of which are located in the Condado do Tea sub-region. Jose Maria Ureta is the current winemaker and he is extremely well respected in the D.O. and considered to be one of the young up-and-comers. Albariño grapes are very high in acidity so La Val allows their new wines to rest a bit longer in tank and at the winery so that the wines’ acidities have softened before release.

International Wine Cellar:
‘Albarino has taken America by storm as demonstrated by this dry perfumed, yet fruity Albarino from Spain’s Galicia region made of 100% estate fruit. Aged on its lees until bottling, this delightful dry, crisp white has fresh notes of apricots, orange skins and honeyed melons. Crisp acidity, fresh, medium-bodied flavors and a zesty finish.’

Wine SpectatorThis firm white shows a minerally character, with notes of chalk and flint that frame a crisp core of lemon and quince flavors. Rapier acidity gives way to notes of sea breeze and wet stone. Drink now through 2022. 28,000 cases made, 4,500 cases imported.
