Brand | Bodegas El Nido |
Origin | Spain, Jumilla |
A super plush, concentrated blend of old vine Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon, this is deep purple-colored with an exotic bouquet of grilled bread, spice box, violets, espresso and berries. Layered and opulent, this still has superb balance and poise. The winemaking at the El Nido project is overseen by renowned Australian vigneron Chris Ringland. We have been buying Clio since the first vintage, 2002. Founded as a joint project between the Gil family, who has done so much to put Jumilla on the map, wine broker Jorge Ordonez, one of the pioneers for unearthing high quality wines from Jumilla, and famed Barossa, Australia winemaker, Chris Ringland, El Nido is located in the Valley of the Aragona, 10 kilometers north of the town of Jumilla, in the "top boundary", so named because it is the highest altitude in the municipality.
"The grapes for this wine are made from 12 ha -29. 65 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards and 32 ha -79 acres- of very old Monastrell with a very low yield. The grapes are harvested with small baskets to prevent bruising. The bunches are brought to triage tables where the best ones are selected. It spends 24 months in French and American new oak barrels where it gets a very typical complexity. The wine exhibits a glass-coating opaque purple color with an expressive nose of pain grille underbrush brier mineral blueberry and blackberry fruit leading to a plush opulent wine with great density savory flavors and a lengthy finish. Food pairings rice pasta (noodles spaghetti macaroni) vegetables mushroom stewed meat sausage pork roast meat red and/or white meat with sauces grilled meat short or medium cheeses." -Winery Notes
