Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé can trace its roots back over 550 years, to 1450, and the Chambolle vines of Jean Moisson. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation - Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. Winemaker François Millet thins his crop to optimize flavors through reasonable yields. He ages 30-40% of the Grands Crus in new oak barrels, a move that emphasizes earth and fruit flavors instead of spicy wood aromas. Only the grapes from the older vines (25 to 50 years) in the Musigny go into the Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes. The domaine is inextricably linked to the Grand Cru vineyards of Musigny and Bonnes Mares, considered by many the pinnacle of Pinot Noir.

Wine AdvocateFrom the southeast corner on red clay soils, the 2012 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a sensual, understated bouquet compared to others, with ebullient raspberry and pomegranate notes, minerals and dried flowers, all with wonderful definition. The palate is clearly cut from the same cloth as the Amoureuses with a killer line of acidity that maintains fine tension and nervosite throughout. This is not a sumptuous Bonnes-Mares - this is much more linear, almost foursquare, but very complex with a very taut and regal finish. 94-96

BurghoundDeep ruby. This is also quite floral yet the character of it is from whiter flowers than those of the Amoureuses. In addition there is good ripeness but also fine freshness to the plum, black cherry, cassis and blueberry aromas. The supple but tautly muscular medium weight plus flavors possess a suave mouth feel thanks to the abundant dry extract that both coats the palate and buffers the very firm tannic spine on the highly persistent finish. Patience will be required. 93-95
