Made from a tiny 1.17 hectare (2.89 acre) vineyard, planted to 100% Pinot Noir in 1955 and the 1980s, Comte Armand's Volnay is one of the most sought after in the village. The terroir is Grand Champs and Les Famines farmed with Biodynamic methods. The parcels are vinified and aged separately. 25% whole cluster. 4 weeks maceration. 18 months aging in barrel (20% new), blending after élevage. This great domaine in Pommard produces all biodynamic wines, 100% de-stemmed, whole-grape fermentation, 20-30% new oak; the reds are unfined, unfiltered.

Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Volnay Villages, which comes from two parcels that lost 80% of their fruit due to hail, has a well defined and almost Pommard-like bouquet. The palate is nicely structured with grainy tannin, crisp acidity, plenty of freshness with a tertiary, masculine finish that again, is not unlike a Pommard on the finish. Give it a year or two after bottling. 88-90
