Quinta do Noval Cedro do Noval 2015A top seller : great quality and great value. While Quinta do Noval has historically been renowned for its world-class Port wine, it also produces compelling dry red wines. Cedro do Noval is a fruit-forward dry red wine named after the famous 100 year old cedar tree that sits in front of Quinta do Noval, overlooking the Douro and Pinhao rivers. Cedro has rich, plummy dark fruits while remaining balanced and fresh. Dating back to 1715, Quinta do Noval is one of the oldest and best wine estates in Portugal. Although known for centuries for top quality fortified port wines (a stellar reputation which continues today), Noval excitedly released its very first dry red wine in 2004 under the direction of Christian Seely. Since the day he arrived in the Douro, Quinta do Noval director Seely knew that the Douro valley was one of the great vineyard terroirs of the world, and had incredible potential for producing unfortified, dry wines. “We are just at the beginning,” says Seely. “I told my staff when I first started here that we have to aspire to Châteaus Latour, Mouton, Margaux.” Under the ownership of the AXA company , Seely's goals have been met and the wines are thriving... After a period of ten years spent studying how the Noval vineyards might best produce a dry red wine, Noval released its first vintage, 2004, to rave reviews. “The inaugural, 2004 vintage release hit on all cylinders,” says Kim Marcus of Wine Spectator . “Christian Seely has successfully overseen the renovation of the famed Quinta do Noval Port estate…and is now managing the latest chapter in Noval’s fascinating history: table wines.” The dry red wines made at the estate are from specially selected parcels of new and mature vines around the estate, and blended from four classic port varities: Touriga Nacional, Tintao Cão, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. True to its long history of continuous innovation, Noval has also been among the first to experiment with Rhone varieties in the Douro, with Syrah from estate plantings being blended into the Cedro do Noval. It has become a top seller from the AXA portfolio because of its tremendous quality/value ratio. It is a fruit-forward dry red wine named after the famous 100 year old cedar tree that sits in front of Quinta do Noval, overlooking the Douro and Pinhao rivers. The wine has tremendous rich, dark fruits while remaining fresh and enjoyable. Made of a native blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca and aged exclusively in French oak, Cedro do Noval can be paired with red meats, pasta, roasted or grilled poultry, cheeses and more.

Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron Les Griffons De Pichon Baron 2015A new wine to the offer, the 2015 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, a 'second wine' from the estate, is a serious Bordeaux from a spectacular vintage. Christian Seely, managing director of AXA Millésimes, owner of Château Pichon Baron since 1987, said of Les Griffons: 'Crafting a great wine – one of the world’s finest – requires an uncompromisingly high standard of work on the harvested grapes. Creating another second wine was a natural step for us in pursuing our policy of strict selection to define Pichon Baron’s special terroir. Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, a wine which clearly resembles its elders yet with its own distinct character, is the result of this forward-thinking practice.' The history of the Pichon estate goes back to the middle ages in Bordeaux. This wine is the estate’s latest addition. With a pure and direct character, the Cabernet and Merlot blend is deep red garnet with a nose enhanced by fresh fruit, black currant cream and blueberries. It is soft and velvety with delicate, precise tannins carried by the great maturity that emanates from the quality of the fruit. The finish is delectable, elegant and distinguished.
Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron Pauillac 2006This wine comes from the very oldest vines grown on the historic plots of the Pichon Baron estate in Pauillac. This full-bodied, warm and forceful wine shows power thorough the mid-palate, yet all the ripe, dark fruit is delivered in a velvet texture. A captivating wine which shows Pichon's total commitment to crafting exceptional wines. The flagship estate in Bordeaux in the AXA portfolio is Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron, also known as Pichon Baron. Located in Pauillac, the estate produces some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines in the world. A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller percentages of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the style is one of ripe, intense red & black fruits with lovely floral notes and vanillan oak woven into the palate, along with structured, balanced tannins for long term cellar aging. The label is made in Reims, Champagne, by an old fashioned printer who is the only maker known to still use a method which sprays copper ink over a type of stencil to make these beautiful labels which are clearly one-of-a-kind. Planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2nd Growth estate of Pichon-Baron, has vines which average 30+ years. The property consistently produces top flight wines, and is often referred to as a 'super-second' performing well above its official pedigree. Located across from Chateau Latour and Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, the vineyard is superbly situated on gravelly soil with a full southerly exposure, and much of the vineyard is adjacent to that of Chateau Latour. AXA smarlty hired Jean-Michel Cazes of Lynch-Bages to oversee the vineyard and winemaking in the early 1980s through 2000 which initiated a quality renaissance that continues today.
