The name 'Buccella,' which means 'mouthful' in Latin, was chosen to evoke the big, bold, concentrated layers of Buccella wines. Even the logo, which was designed by UXUS, is inspired by the perfect mouthful, offering a contemporary take on the 'tastevin,' a small silver cup traditionally used for wine tasting. This Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from diverse, premium fruit cultivated by a variety of small vineyards spanning the Napa Valley. Low yields and great clonal pedigree, combined with meticulous farming within a variety of appellations, are essential to producing the Buccella style. The 2012 is made of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. 1130 cases produced.

'Celia Welch crafts the Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards in Rutherford, Oakville, Stags Leap, Yountville and Coombsville. Welch told me she is gradually backing off from the super-ripe approach of the past. The Cabernet generally spends about 22 months in French oak barrels, 80% new, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered.' Wine Advocate

The wine has an opaque purple color, a beautiful nose of forest floor, white flowers, blueberry and black raspberry, along with a telltale cassis and subtle background oak. Full-bodied, rich and multi-dimensional, this is fabulous 2012 that's just coming into its own. Look for this wine to drink well young, as it already is, and evolve for 20-25 years.
