'Pianrosso' Brunello di Montalcino is the single-vineyard bottling for which Ciacci Piccolomini has built its outstanding reputation. The Pianrosso vineyard covers 11 hectares (about 27 acres) which are authorized for the production of Brunello D.O.C.G. The land is medium grain with good levels of marl, dating from the Eocene period. The altitude of this vineyard varies from 240 to 360 metres above sea level. Aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a minimum of eight months in bottle before release, Ciacci Piccolomini's Pianrosso typically has a complex nose with a fruit forward palate and mouth filling power. This wine will pair well with roasted red meats, rich pasta courses and aged Italian cheeses.

The stunning, savory palate boasts remarkable finesse combined with an age-worthy structure, offering succulent black cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and tobacco alongside taut, refined tannins. Wine AdvocateAlthough this wine is not labeled as a riserva, it is released six years after the harvest as if it were one. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso (with 20,000 bottles produced) opens to balanced fragrances that mix fruity elements with spice, crushed stone and smoke. This wine is linear and direct with firm tannic support at the back. Give it another few years to flesh out further with additional bottle aging.
