Owner Justin Tyler Willett states, ‘We believe wine should be elegant and honest, and must possess aromatic purity. In order to best convey the individuality of each site, we try to be modern in our thinking and classic in our approach. Great effort has been made not only to seek out vineyards of pedigree, but also to seek out vines with age. We now work with a number of the oldest vineyard blocks in the County and believe this is essential in our quest for both purity and intesity. Furthermore, close collaboration with each of our growers along with focused, minimal handling of fruit and wine allow us the best opportunity to achieve our goals. We currently produce 12 different bottlings each year from 22 parcels within 7 different vineyard sites. Total production is approximately 5000 cases annually.’
Willett considers his Bien Nacido bottling as a wonderful expression of what the Santa Maria Valley is all about. In the 2013 vintage, all three of the blocks that he works with made it into the cut of this cuvee and as a result, he feesl it is the most complete and complex Bien Nacido he has ever bottled.

Wine AdvocateA selection of old and young vines from one of the greatest sites in the Santa Maria Valley, the 2013 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido was completely destemmed and aged 14 months in 25% new French oak. Stunningly perfumed, with awesome raspberry, black raspberry, rose petal and crushed-rock nuances, this beauty is medium-bodied, elegant and seamless, with building richness and a distinct briny minerality on the finish. Count me a fan and this beauty will benefit from a year in the cellar and drink nicely through at least 2023.
VinousThe 2013 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard is wonderfully lifted and aromatic. Rose petal, dried cherry, exotic spices and star anise are all laced into a polished finish with pretty savory overtones from the 20% whole clusters. Drink this silky, pliant Pinot over the next handful of years. Drink: 2015-2021.
