Made from an indigenous Greek varietal, Mountain Sun red is a terrific place to start in your discovery of Greek red wines. Made of 100% Agiorgitiko (ahhh-your-ghi-tee-ko) grapes, look for ripe plums, cherries, dark mocha and spice on the nose, with a smooth, medium-bodied palate of vibrant red fruits, hints of earthy notes and a nice acid/tannin balance. We enjoyed this red at home with spiced Lentil Soup followed by Petit Basque sheep's milk cheese and tart cherry preserves and it was insanely delicious! You could also serve this with Mediterranean dishes, pasta with red sauce, meat, ham and other cheeses. This is the type of delicious, authentic red you will drink when having lunch or dinner on your dream vacation to Greece. We visited the forward-thinking Semeli winery in June 2010 and understood the true meaning of the 'Mountain Sun' name. Surrounded by breathtaking views of mountains in the Peloponnese region, we watched the sun set over the mountains and change from gold to orange to red, and we had one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences, when you feel so lucky to see such a thing of beauty.
