The second absolutely world-class estate that AXA owns in Bordeaux is Chateau Suduiraut. This property is a First Growth estate located just down the road from Chateau d'Yquem. Planted to 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon, the estate is dedicated to making sweet white dessert wines, but also makes very limited quantities of a dry white wine that is also outstanding. As evidenced recently by Chateau Suduiraut's higher reviews than the more famous Chateau d'Yquem in the Wine Spectator, it does not get more serious (or delicious) than Suduiraut for Sauternes. This 2007 was bought directly from the cellars of the Chateau providing perfect cellaring conditions.
Chateau Suduiraut has a history at the pinnacle of Bordeaux estates that goes back over 400 years. Purchased by AXA in 1992, the winery has been on a run of quality that today unquestionably places it among the top handful of estates in Sauternes. For lovers of these great dessert wines, Suduiraut balances luscious, irresistible richness with tremendous balance and purity. 2007 is, in addition, a fantastic vintage for Sauternes.

Wine EnthusiastPowered by dry botrytis, this is a wine with immense potential. It has weight, complexity and richness, all under the cloak of botrytis. To leaven the power, there is acidity, but this is certainly for aging.

Wine SpectatorDried lemon and floral aromas lead to loads of botrytis spice and bitter lemon peel in this young, full-bodied sweetie, with hints of lively lime and honey. Medium sweet. Very intense. Best after 2014.

Wine AdvocateThe nose takes time to coalesce in the glass, very pure with honey, white peach, Turkish Delight honeysuckle, and beeswax. The palate is beautifully balanced, still with some oak to be subsumed, but has great depth and precision. This is a confident, almost ambitious Suduiraut with great power and intensity towards the botrytis-rich, viscous finish that is endowed with great persistency. Lovely. Drink now-2030.
