Chateau Les Grands Marechaux Premieres Cotes de Blaye 2015
This classic Bordeaux from the epic 2015 vintage has rich, smooth flavors of black cherry, cassis, mocha and licorice with a velvety mouthfeel. It is from a small production estate which typically produces about 2500 cases per year, and the wine is aged in 20% new oak from 100% handpicked grapes. Owned by Guillaume Touton, from whom we have been buying Bordeaux for over 30 years, the 21.4-hecatare Les Grands Marechaux estate has sandy clay and limestone soils in the appellation of Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux. The vineyard is planted to 84% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. The terroir is clay, limestone and sandy soils. Serve with grilled and roasted meats, aged French cheeses and meat pâté's.
Wine EnthusiastInitially firmly tannic, this opens to reveal fine blackberry fruit and fresh acidity. It's a generous wine, the wood aging giving tannins and spice while the delicious fruit offers a rounder, smoother side. Drink from 2020.
