Foxglove Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

SKU 15571

This is a spectacular bargain from Paso Robles, one of our favorite areas for distinctive, supple and rich reds. Winemaker Bob Varner makes Foxglove in a modern style that's meant to bring out the true terroir of an appellation (in the case of the Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit comes from carefully selected vineyards in Paso Robles that capture all the warmth of the area, but have none of the sappy, over ripe flavors often associated with Paso Robles).

Neighbors include Justin, Tablas Creek (the Beaucastel folks), Eberle, Robert Hall, and L'Aventure wineries. 'Foxglove is a range of absolutely spectacular bargains from the very high-quality Varner Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is their less expensive line-up of wines, and I encourage readers to try them - they are true winners.'
Robert Parker He also said, 'I was blown away by the two wines I tasted from Foxglove, Bob and Jim Varner's negociant label. The Varners clearly have the magic touch. These are among the finest values readers will find anywhere in the world.'

2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles : 94% Cabernet, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc :: 100% Paso Robles :: 25 year average age of vines. Hog Canyon and Northern area of Paso Robles, planted on rolling hill, loam soils...

The New York Times' Eric Asimov chose Foxglove Cabernet in his 20 Wines under $20 for Winter in 2017 saying 'Foxglove is the reliable value arm of Varner Wine, which makes fine chardonnays and pinot noir. Foxglove expands that range with moderately priced wines like this Paso Robles cabernet, which is bold and intense yet not at all a fruit bomb. It's juicy and balanced and will go well with steaks and chops.'
