Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

SKU 13513

Mount Veeder Winery, located on the rugged Mount Veeder mountain, originally made a name for themselves in the 1970's with their first release in 1973. Mount Veeder was the first vineyard in Napa Valley planted to all five of the Bordeaux grape varieties used in a classic Bordeaux blend. They feel that blending is the key to crafting the most complete, balanced wine and enhancing the inherent characteristics of each variety. The philosophy at Mount Veeder Winery is that each wine should have its own remarkable way of expressing the mountain soil from which it was born. They believe that great wines are a reflection of their terroir—the combination of soil, topography, microclimate and people—and that excellent grapes handled with minimal processing have the potential to produce the greatest wines. The ultimate goal is the creation of a rich, seamless wine.

Look for black berry, cherry vanilla, mulberry, cassis and smoky oak in the nose and mouth of this smooth and sultry wine. The rich velvety tannins reveal the rugged, mountainous location of the estate. Typically a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. This will be a terrific wine to serve with a grilled Rib Eye and baked potato.

Wine EnthusiastThis is a brawny, leathery expression of the variety, explosive on the palate in brambly blackberry and black cherry. Leather, coffee and tobacco give it additional edge and savory qualities that work within its full-bodied, ripe and rich context.

VinousThe 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolutely delicious, mid-weight wine to drink now and over the next few years. This is a decidedly fruit, soft mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, but all the elements are nicely balanced throughout. Bright red cherry, plum and mint add further shades of nuance throughout. Best of all, the 2014 is very fairly priced by Napa Valley standards.
