Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.
Typically aged 20 months in French oak, 65% new, the blend is usually 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Look for inviting aromas of blackberry syrup, ripe cherries, dried wild blueberries, and pipe tobacco intermixed with rich dark chocolate. The vintage showcases a wonderful balance of acidity, vibrancy, and powdery tannins that float on the palate with flavors of sweet vanilla, hints of molasses and baking spices. The 2009 vintage was the first time a small amount of Petit Verdot, which the estate planted in 2006, was added, enhancing their trademark deep color, while contributing a bit of additional weight and silky smooth tannins. This opulent wine has terrific density and structure making it enjoyable now, yet full of promise for great aging potential.
Wine AdvocateA surprisingly strong effort, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits hints of black olives and tapenade as well as copious notes of creme de cassis, licorice and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and atypically concentrated for a 2011, this is another tour de force from Spottswoode that boasts beautiful fruit and a long finish. It should drink well for 8-12 years. Kudos to the Novack family!
