The vineyards of the Casanuova delle Cerbaie are located at approximately 300 metres above sea level on land dating back to the Eocene period characterized by calcareous, marl, argillaceous and conglomerate rocks. The prevailing south-west exposition of the vineyards allows them to get the best sunlight throughout the day. Moreover, these vineyards grow on the prestigious hill of Montesoli and extend to the foot of the hill where Montalcino stands, thereby benefiting from a particularly moderate climate since they are sheltered by natural barriers on the North and West from the freezing north wind or extremely hot winds like the sorocco. The estate's powerful and classicly-wrought Brunello has a strong, complex character, endowed with a well-rounded fragrance, and is the result of a careful selection of choice grapes in the firm's best vineyards, Its renowned quality is the final product of a meticulous work done in the vineyards and subsequent interventions in the winery in total respect for the traditions and the production regulations.

Wine AdvocateThe 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a classy, elegant wine laced with sweet red cherries, subtle herbs and hints of tobacco. Cedar and leather appear later, adding further complexity. This is an interesting Brunello that presents an essentially classic aromatic and flavor profile, but with a little more textural richness and depth than most wines made in a similar vein. A long, generous finish rounds things out nicely. Today the 2006 is still quite primary, but it certainly has the potential to develop into an even more beautiful wine in a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.

Wine SpectatorSupple and elegant, this displays its cherry, raspberry and cigar box flavors with intensity and harmony. Ends with refined tannins and a flourish of spice. Best from 2013 through 2025. 1,400 cases made.
