Mer Soleil Chardonnay 2016
Caymus winemaker Chuck Wagner believes that the 'magic' of Mer Soleil lies in the combination of cooler weather and lots of sunlight. He and his son Charlie own Mer Soleil Vineyard which is located in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The winery is named after the sea (Mer), due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, and the sun (Soleil), due to the abundant California sunshine. Charlie Wagner is the winemaker. The 'yellow label' of Mer Soleil is barrel-fermented, rich, citrusy and buttery. The Wine Enthusiast raved about a previous vintage : 'Classic Mer Soleil, which is to say it's a small nuclear explosion in the mouth. Don't drink it too cold, or you'll minimize the rich tropical fruit and vanilla cream flavors. This big Chard should be enjoyed with food that's buttery and slightly sweet, like broiled lobster.'
