Anise, spices and red fruits in the nose lead to more of the same in the mouth with a long, satisfying finish. The Nero d'Avola grape is indigenous to Sicily, and typically takes on an almost Cabernet Sauvignon/Sangiovese character. Colosi's Nero d'Avola is made in limestone soils and vinified without oak. Serve with pizza, pasta dishes or with Italian cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Sottocenere Truffle.

Wine AdvocateCantine Colosi offers great value with the the 2015 Nero d'Avola. This is a dark and luscious wine with pretty concentration and a cheerful, upfront personality. The estate presents a simple and clean expression of Sicily's mighty grape. The wine is redolent of primary aromas with dark cherry and blackberry at the front. It would pair perfectly with flatbread or oven-fresh pizza. Piero and his son Pietro Colosi run this estate, which has been in family hands for three generations. Some 40 years ago, they purchased a small vineyard plot on the island of Salina to make Malvasia delle Lipari. The base wines offered by this estate, including a Grillo and a Nero d'Avola, all offer terrific value.
